Detailed description

The chroniclers assume that a church dedicated to St. Severinus was built in Hamm at a very early time.

1564 The parish of Hamm is assigned to Lutheranism by the sovereign Count Adolf of Sayn.

1646 30 Years' War - the church (now Protestant church) burned down, the tower remained intact.

1861 Purchase of a plot of land on Kapellenweg. First celebration of a Holy Mass - since the Reformation - in the chapel.

1890 Purchase of a plot of land on Ringelsmorgen.

1895 Laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the new St. Joseph Church.

1961 St. Joseph becomes an independent rectorship.

1980/1981 Extensive renovation and modernization work.

1986 St. Joseph becomes an independent parish.

2013 Merger with St. Jakobus Altenkirchen to form the Catholic parish of St. Jakobus and Joseph, Altenkirchen.
