The basalt park is one of the prominent landmarks of Bad Marienberg.
The open-air museum offers you interesting insights into the volcanic activity of the region about 25 million years ago. It represents the history of basalt extraction, which played an important economic role for the citizens in and around Bad Marienberg over the past centuries. In the basalt park, the geological processes and earlier extraction methods are vividly documented. Around the recultivated quarry, one can still clearly recognize the various types and crystallization forms of basalt. Characteristic: five- or six-sided columns in different thicknesses and heights, which are often visible in "meiler position." You can reach the basalt park via Bismarckstraße towards the district of Zinhain. The southern entrance is located about 500 m from the corner of Bahnhofstraße/Bismarckstraße on the right side. The circular path with information boards is accessible year-round and admission is free.
