5rd Bear Poppy Run starts on 1 August
THE mountain/trail run in the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park on the "WällerTour Bärenkopp" over 11 km with + 360/- 260 m difference in altitude on the first Friday in August, starting at 6 p.m. (delayed block starts). The Bärenkopp is the eponym of the premium hiking trail WällerTour Bärenkopp and thus also of the Bärenkopplauf. The WällerTour Bärenkopp was officially opened on 9 May 2015. The certification as "Quality Trail Wanderbares Deutschland" with the addition "Dream Tour" by the German Hiking Association was awarded in September 2015. The Bärenkopp is a hilltop near the village of Breitscheid-Verscheid with a white summit cross, from where there is a magnificent view of the Wiedtal valley and the surrounding heights. The name "Bärenkopp" (bear's head) probably has nothing to do with the predator, but "bear" is probably derived from "bar" in the sense of bald or empty.
