‘Zur Krone’ Guest House

One of the town’s oldest remaining public houses is the ‘Krone’ (meaning ‘the crown’) at the lower end of Hauptstraße. Back in the 18th century, this former high-end hostelry was even used by princes and princesses. It was the first guest house in the town to have carpeted rooms. Fortunately, the ‘Krone’ was spared in the great town fire of 1723 and is therefore of an impressive age; it is thought to have been built in the first half of the 17th century. Today, the pub is known as the ‘U-Boot’ (meaning the submarine).
