Amphibian conservation. Can they still be saved? Stephan Backes from the Struktur- und Genehmigungsdirektion (SGD) Nord will shed light on this question on Friday, 07 July 2023, 5 pm in the Stöffel Park.
Tree frogs, yellow-bellied toads and natterjack toads are doing badly. Without human support, many amphibian species will not be able to survive in our country.
The SGD wants to counteract this development as the higher nature conservation authority and works closely with science in the fight to preserve endangered species, which are also found in the Stöffel Park.
For example, they regularly draw on research results from the universities of Koblenz and Trier to optimise amphibian conservation by creating new spawning and staging waters and with the help of the biotope managers. Excursion follows Stephan Backes will describe the current situation in his lecture with illustrative pictures and then lead an excursion to the spawning waters in the Stöffel Park.
The biotope wardens and amphibian conservationists of the Stöffel Association look forward to welcoming many interested visitors. Note: In the Tertiary, the comparison is with amphibians that existed in the Stöffel Park 25 million years ago. The event is free of charge, the regular entrance fee for the Stöffel Park must be paid at the information desk.
