From the hikers' car park, our route starts to the village's namesake and the popular 15th century St. Mary's pilgrimage chapel. Along the Gelbach we go up to the site of the former medieval farmstead ,,Geiersburg".
Leaving this archaeological monument behind us, after passing the pilgrimage path, we get a beautiful view of historic Montabaur with its castle and from there to the "Hermolter" in the Ahrbach valley.
Bad things are said to have happened here....
After a first glimpse of the valley, we climb the hill on old trade routes, aiming for a contrast of 2,500 years.
After a short rest, we go to discover the interesting Koppel. Where does this name come from?
On a narrow, steep path we go down the valley to a relic of the Second World War. Industrious hands were at work here back then. After a while, along the romantic Mühlen-Ahrbach stream, we cross the new, busy trade, work and pleasure road to encounter a modern-day bullet that makes you shudder when you meet it. Downstream, we make a detour to the fabled Bildches Eich on the Holbach, which joins the Ahrbach after a short while.
In a good mood for a safe return, we continue along the "Wirzenborner Liss" along the Gelbach, where we have reached the end of our tour and can stop for a break if we wish.
