Hint / Advice

For 50 (!!!) years, we have been holding an event once a year as a small sports club on the edge of the Westerwald, the "Volkswandertag" of the Turnverein Rengsdorf. Since then, families, locals and out-of-towners - now in the 3rd or even 4th generation - have had fun on routes of 10, 20, 30 and 50 km, enjoying nature, the refreshments along the way and the convivial meeting at the finish, at the open-air swimming pool in Rengsdorf. The hike has made the name of our community known beyond the borders of the region. Because we have integrated an ultra-marathon as the so-called "Westerwaldlauf" for over 20 years, we also see participants from the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Our event is not large: 500 to 700 people spread out over the day, and that's just fine with us, because it keeps the character of the event familiar and cosy. Nevertheless - or perhaps because of this - we have made it into the international press: a reporter from TIME magazine was also present at the Volkswandertag 2004. In the issue of 5 July 2004, she reports on her impressions and experiences at our hiking day under the title "Taking it all in Stride - How generations have found fun and friendship on hikes in the German countryside". And it is worth reading the comments in our guestbook on the homepage (www.tv-rengsdorf.de).
