Etienne Walhain, born in 1980, was appointed titular organist of the Ducroquet-Merklin organ of Tournai Cathedral in 2005.
After first piano and organ studies with Zbigniew Kruczek, he received three "Premiers Prix" in composition, organ and chamber music. Through further studies with Louis Robilliard in Lyon he won the "Premier Prix de Perfectionnement". In 1998 he met Jean Guillou, with whom he studied in Paris and Zurich until 2008. In the organ class of Jean-Jacques Kasel in Luxembourg he obtained the "Diplôme Supérieur" in 2002 in the subject organ.
As an accomplished improviser, he is now increasingly concerned with the rare tradition of silent film accompaniment.
