Description

Wisserlandtouristik has been offering various city tours since this year.
We meet at 10:00 am at the RegioBahnhof Wissen in front of the tourist information centre. Our circular route starts here. We cross Schlossstraße at the Europa roundabout and walk along the Siegpromenade to the Heubrücke bridge. On the way, there is a beautiful view of the historic Heisterkapelle chapel. On the Heubrücke bridge, there is information about the name of the bridge. We continue to Schönstein Castle. In the castle courtyard, we take a quick look around and visit the spot where Ferdinand Lassalle, the co-founder of today's SPD, lost his coat tails in 1847. We return to our hiking trail through the Schlossfreiheit, circle the castle, cross the Firzelsbach and follow the Auenlandweg for a while, which was voted the second most beautiful circular hiking trail in 2023. The next striking waypoint is just below Blickhauserhöhe. Here we pass the former Rasselskaute mine and reach a geological feature: the rock fold at Hövels. At this point, we cross the Sieg and shortly afterwards tackle the ascent to the Steinwegskopf. Passing the former Eupel mine, we reach the historic "Old Post Road" on the ridge. Once we reach the edge of the forest above Oberhövels, we treat ourselves to a break, enjoy the sweeping views of the Westerwald landscape and fortify ourselves for the second stage with the promised snack.

From the Alte Poststraße, we hike down into the idyllic Mühlental valley. We can cool our feet at the Brölbach stream and hop through a ford, or we can take the small bridge to get to the other side. Here we follow the course of the Brölbach on a section of the old mine railway that led from Katzwinkel to the "Alte Hütte" (old smelter) in Wissen. Once again we change sides of the Brölbach. The final ascent up the Kucksberg awaits us there. Once we have managed this and are standing on the Kucksberg, there is a beautiful view over Wissen and the Siegtal valley. The descent from the Kucksberg takes us past the old customs house, where we change sides and walk through the old town centre of Wissen along the former rolling mill back to our starting point at the RegioBahnhof railway station.
