The small village is surrounded by forests, beautiful valleys and hilly landscapes from which you can look down to the Seven Mountains and the Wied valley. In Fernthal itself is a bakery and a butcher. In Neustadt / Wied and Asbach, 3 km and 8 km away, are many shops. Spend your holiday in the central mountain region in the nature reserve Rhein-Westerwald. This is an optimal basis to explore the Westerwald, the Wied-Valley, Rhine and Moselle Valley. Central location (30-40 minute drive) for trips to Cologne (visit to the cathedral), Bonn (Petersberg, Museum Mile, Rheinaue), Koblenz (Deutsches Eck, gondola ride across the Rhine to Ehrenbreitstein) and the Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. 1-1.5 hour drive from the Ruhr. In the surroundings you will find Linz with its beautiful historic center, glass blowing, Königswinter with the Drachenfels, Neuwied with the castle, the adjoining Bendorf-Sayn with the butterfly garden, the castle Sayn, the Engerser Castle.
