Firmly walled in the earth, stands the form baked from clay........ Most people still know this famous first line of Friedrich Schiller's poem "The Bell", but hardly anyone today knows what lies behind it - the fascination of bells and their manufacture! ....... and did you know that the manufacture of bells in the LahnDill-Bergland has a tradition of over 400 years? Bells have been ringing for many millennia almost everywhere on our planet. Apart from the beautiful sound, bells have had numerous functions over the centuries to inform the population about current events, in addition to the ringing to announce the time and the call to prayer, which is still common today. During a half-day bus excursion, the group of interested people will learn everything worth knowing about the topic "Nature and Art in Harmony - Fascination of Bells" with Dr. Jörg Wegerhoff, the nature guide in the Lahn-Dill-Bergland. The bus will take them from Herborn to Sinn, where the Rincker family has been casting bells since the 16th century. First-hand accounts of the manufacture of bells are given at the site of the event. The participants learn that bell casting is still an extremely labour-intensive and complicated process, .......and is still done almost exactly as it was in the Middle Ages. The tour continues to Greifenstein. In the bell museum at the castle there, you can learn a lot about the history of bells, their various uses and functions over the centuries - in addition to the fantastic view over the Lahn-Dill-Bergland Nature Park. To experience how bells develop their optimal sound, the group then travels to Ballersbach near Mittenaar and visits the Protestant village church there, including the bell tower. The late Romanesque, former choir tower was built in the third quarter of the 13th century. You will have to be sure-footed on this journey into the world of bells, but at the end of the day you will surely succumb to the fascination of the bells and finally know exactly what is hidden behind the lines of Friedrich Schiller's famous poem.
