Ausstellung: Retrospektive von Marlen Seubert "hautnah"

Description

We are pleased to announce the exhibition of Marlen Seubert. Her retrospective "hautnah" will be formally opened with a champagne reception on Sunday, July 24, 4 p.m., in the TERTIÄRUM of Stöffel Park and will be on view until Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Works from 30 years of creativity will be presented by the artist - from drawings to large-format paintings to three-dimensional objects, of course, including skin works. The finissage on August 24, 2022, falls on the artist's 77th birthday, beginning at 6 pm.

Life and artistic vita

Marlen Seubert was born in 1945 and grew up in Munich. She studied at the Werkkunstschule Würzburg and at the FH-Gestaltung Würzburg. She has shown her installations, objects and paintings in numerous solo exhibitions in Germany, including many in Bonn (Frauenmuseum and Kunstmuseum) and in Spain. Group exhibitions have taken her works as far as China and the Cerresgalery New York.

With the artist group "Zart und Zackig" she participated in the Documenta 2001, and was represented with performance and interaction in the Guggenheim Museum New York. The individual artistic stations are listed on her homepage. Also in the Westerwald (for some time in Bad Marienberg), where she has lived for many years, alternating with Spain, she regularly offers exhibitions, as in 2020 in the Stöffel Park, where she showed the cycle of paintings "The new way, part 1", with which she processed the impressions of the Corona pandemic. She recently presented a generous donation in the form of her material painting "Evolution" at Stöffel Park.

Upcycling and art

She became known not least for her various skin works. Gold beater skins, udders and intestines of animals are formed by her into delicate transparent objects. The idea of using disposable material arose out of necessity during her student days, Seubert recounts. The artist, whose trademark is her hat, takes unusual paths. In terms of content, she repeatedly takes up socio-political themes, thus making a strong case for women's rights and positioning herself with her art against oppression, violence and war. For art may, indeed must, provoke in order to break down veils and thus enable new ways of seeing, thinking and behaving.
