Welcome dear hiking friends! Stefanie Eichhorn will accompany you on this circular walk, which starts in Westerburg.
We start our approx. 11 km long circular walk on the slope of the Westerburg castle hill, where the castle ghost "Petermännchen" still plays his tricks today. We pass Westerburg's "good parlour", the Burgmannenhaus, built in 1607 and a pearl of the town since its restoration around 1981.
With a view of the castle and the Protestant castle church, we leave the town in the direction of Katzenstein. The eastern viewpoint, part of a basalt formation 417 m above sea level, looks like a balcony. We continue our hike over heights and through meadows down to the lively Schafbach stream, which we cross in Hergenroth to enjoy the next view shortly afterwards. After a short break, we hike along the idyllic high trail between Halbs and Westerburg. The narrow path seems magical, offering us glimpses of the mossy flora and views into the valley. To the right, the tower of the Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) stretches through the light of the leafy canopy. Feel invited to immerse yourself in the wonderful atmosphere of this 14th century pilgrimage church steeped in history. Seating groups outside invite you to linger.
For the crowning finale, we will stop for a bite to eat at around 1 pm. Let us surprise you. If you would like to join us, please register in addition to the walk. Here we will serve with heart and soul. Hints: Sturdy shoes and clothing suitable for the weather are required. And please remember to bring your own backpacks and drinks. Participation is only possible after registration and subsequent confirmation!
