The WesterwaldSteig celebrates its 15th birthday this year. On the anniversary event page, there is an overview of all the guided hikes on the occasion of the WesterwaldSteig's birthday, which is constantly updated. Every participant takes part in a raffle and has the chance to win attractive prizes from the region. The main prize is a trip in a hot air balloon, which promises a completely new perspective on the Westerwald hiking paradise.
To round off the anniversary year, a guided hike from Krippe von Krippe will take place on Thursday, 28.12.2023.
The shuttle bus starts at 9:30 am in Markstraße in Waldbreitbach, where participants can park free of charge. The journey leads to the church of St. Suitbertus in Rheinbrohl, where the large root cot will be visited. Then it is a short bus ride up to Arienheller, where the 16 km hike on the WesterwaldSteig begins. It goes uphill with a short stop at the Roman tower and on to Malberg. Here you have the opportunity to take a break and eat backpacks at the rest area.
This is followed by the descent to Hausen an der Wied, past the monastery of St. Joseph's House and the Chapel of the Cross. Arriving in the Christmas village of Waldbreitbach, the hikers visit the large natural root nativity scene in the parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt. It is entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest of its kind. A short walk through the village leads past other Christmas attractions and nativity scenes. The walk ends at around 17:00 with a cup of mulled wine.
The participation fee is € 19 per person including shuttle bus and mulled wine. Registration is now possible with the Wiedtal Tourist Association at info@wiedtal.de or by telephone on 02638 - 4017. Participants are asked to bring weatherproof clothing and walking shoes as some sections can be steep and slippery.
