The Westerwald offers eight different natural areas.
From expansive meadows and fields to high hills. Each natural area has its own distinctive landscape features. In the Rhine-Westerwald nature reserve you can breathe the clean, healthy air of the climate spas Rengsdorf and Ehlscheid. Both towns

offer spa holidays with swimming pools and health gardens. Give your body a chance to breathe!
The Kroppacher Schweiz area provides idyllic pathways and romantic views for holidaymakers.
In the Kannenbäckerland you will see “white gold” – the clay which is worked according to traditional craft methods.
Are you looking to reach out for the heights? If so, you should walk up the Fuchskaute (657 m), the highest mountain in the Westerwald, providing a magnificent view.
The high hill landscape is typical of the Hessian Westerwald, attracting hikers and walkers with its old farms and romantic mills.
The Gelbachtal valley in the Nassau nature reserve offers wonderful walks, and nearby Montabaur is always worth a trip.
In the Altenkirchen Westerwald you can follow the trail of the famous social reformer Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen who lived here. The Raiffeisenland was named after him and is excellent for walking and cycling.
